Tangible plans for positive change

Your will have heard me talking about or read my blogs wittering on about the importance of natural capital as the key opportunity to tackle climate change. There have been a few voices trying to raise this to the top of the agenda over the last few years. I was delighted to hear a very powerful voice added to this movement last week, at the McAuley lecture at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh last week. Dieter Helm is an oxford economist and chair of the NCC, Natural Capital Committee, formed by UK government. His talk focused minds around seeing the environment in monetary and economic terms and so, bringing it firmly into the debate as a cost-effective tool to be used to fight climate change. His message was hard hitting with no punches pulled about the enormity of the task we face in de-carbonising our economy. I personally, was delighted to hear such a powerful and well connected voice talk so much sense and highly recommend his book ‘Green and Prosperous Land’.
