A simple, tried and tested system that allows you to advise your clients better and so help them produce a greater return, whilst giving you a greater understanding of their potato crops. Customers are enjoying benefits of up to 15% in saleable value for a given crop.

It’s a win-win situation…

  • Ensuring decisions are based on better data

Monitoring of crops through weather and satellite data

  • Predicting the potato size and yield at the right time
  • Giving the opportunity to gain peak value on potato crops

‘I was astonished at the accuracy of the predicted yield against the actual – this really works!’

‘I saved so much time only doing proper targeted digs and my saleable value was higher than I expected.’

A bit more detail
Tuberzone CropCast is the new simplified potato growth model that predicts potato crop yield, size distribution and crop value weekly through the season to ensure knock down at peak crop value.

Using it is easy, simply:

  1. Sign up your client’s crops
  2. Report planting date, variety and irrigation
  3. Use Tuberzone data to help manage the growing crop
  4. Take time and location targeted digs, based on Tuberzone recommendations
  5. Use Tuberzone model outputs and contract prices to accurately decide optimal knock down date

The model will use field specific weather from a virtual station, satellite imagery and the data you supply to predict crop growth and development. The model is constantly refreshed with the latest satellite data. Targeted digs are then recommended at the point at which no more viable daughter tubers are likely to develop. These targeted digs calibrate the model for that crop on that season and, from then on, we can supply weekly yield and size distribution predictions. These predictions can easily be connected to values of different tuber sizes in the client’s contract to decide ideal knock down date or to manage the best logistics for knock down and harvest for larger growers.

Tuberzone CropCast is the standard offering for the vast majority of crops. A full field analysis is possible using full Tuberzone. Where CropCast is a per crop analysis, full Tuberzone looks in much more granular detail. It is much more data intensive, but can predict within-field variability of yield and size distribution. This is a solution to consider for particular situations; very variable crops, very small crops by area (where satellite resolution is not fine enough), trial plots or where a deeper understanding of how a variety is performing is desired. In effect, full Tuberzone created predictive virtual yield and size distribution maps.

For the Supply Chain

Tuberzone technology is being used for bespoke solutions for particular supply chains. Many aspects of quality and yield can be predicted and managed across large numbers of fields. This produces vital information for processing and retailing of potato products. On the other side of the supply chain, the maximising of seed production and understanding of crop performance variation on early stages of a new variety.
