With an extensive product and service portfolio, SoilEssentials complement this with their status as authorised Trimble dealer for Northern UK.

The winner was John Peock of Todston Farm near Madderty in Perthshire who has been overwhelmed by his recent win. “I was completely delighted and extremely surprised by it all” said John, who farms 450 acres of arable land with his son David. The full kit, which comprises of a Trimble CFX-750 guidance display, EZ-Pilot assisted steering system and running on RangePoint correction service would easily set a farmer back £5500. They visited the SoilEssentials stand at The Royal Highland Show and David remembers being told by his wife that there was no real chance they would be buying a system so left the stand with sloping shoulders. This introduction of precision agriculture technology is a first for John and he explains “It is fortuitous it has happened now, before I get too old to understand how to work it all and appreciate the benefits it will give to me and especially David.”

Thinking about the crops they grow at Todston – wheat, barley, OSR, beans and peas – they can already visualise how the systems will help in their farming operations. The farm has been in the Peock family since 1968 and John took over the reins from his father in 1995. With an undulating landscape and large amalgamated fields, David smiles and relates “It will be a huge help when setting out with the drill in our irregular shaped fields. It should also make a big difference to me on long days in the seat during our busy Autumn sowing schedule. It has been known to lose tramlines in the beans as they disappear when the crop grows and we can see future efficiencies with the accurate spreading of fertiliser too.”

Both John and David are enthusiastic with the new additions and have the support of the SoilEssentials technical team of engineers to keep them progressing, growing their confidence and developing their skills as they move forward.

The SoilEssentials expertise lies where technology and good farming practice merge, providing practical solutions designed primarily with agricultural efficiency in mind.
